I Should Announce, My Life is Very Important- 30 Poems in 30 Days (NaPoWriMo)

I’m wondering when we decided to be

such a petty, self-centered, narcissistic society?

Where all conversations are centered on me.

Life revolving around us completely.

Please pardon  for a moment while I update my status
About my activity and feelings I know many are anxious

Now back to this lecture about life revolving

in a small little circle where all must be knowing.

About what I say, what I buy, what I do

and who is going with me, if just to the zoo.

Hold on, sit tight, I just need to tag
my good friends who are with me while I buy this new bag.

Can you believe that I said it or did it or met

one of the sisters from the traveling Wilson Quartet?

Oh, you don’t know of them, let me snicker and share

this link to their homepage that I found first, fair and square.

Hold on a sec, I need to finish typing
on my smartphone the announcement that Nobu left me bloating.

Now back to you, because you’re important, indeed.

See we’re sitting at this small cafe eating organic feed.

You know who would like this place besides you and me?

Anna, Thomas, Carson, Bates, Edith and Lady Crawley.

Have you seen it, heard it watched it?

Well, no you have not, I will send you the link using this free hotspot.

Give me just a minute while I search to give you help
And I should tell everyone about this place, let me log in to Yelp!

It’s been good talking at you, I hope you don’t mind

if I spend some time checking Instagram, I am running behind.

I love my life and I am so thankful that you

love hearing, reading and seeing how wonderful things are for me too.

[insert your WORD here] – 29 of 30

[insert your WORD here] is a curious thing
changes circumstances when you’re least expecting
delivers mental battles when you are ailing
gives opportunities when you’re doubting
provides clarity when you’re questioning
offers support when you’re flailing
grabs your hand when it needs holding

[insert your WORD here] does not reject or push you away
even when that is what your life may portray
the consistency offered by this curious option
befuddles grown men and women quite often
rarely will it be found if you’ve hardened your outlook
yet still easily grasped after it has been forsook
not recommended to put off or delay
rather grasp and accept it despite your dismay

Yellow to White – Day 28 of 30

Yellow

The color of the teeth
Of the man who has been hiding
In the forest, in the woods
Not sure why he sought that refuge
What made him turn and run

Was it his picture on the billboard
Or his image on the news
When they found the dead girl’s body
When they announced the grim discovery
A lifeless body found in the lake
That he, the father, was the prime suspect

Not seen for more than ten years
Found sleeping in a cave
Clothes tattered and torn
Hair, wild and crazed, like that of a savage beast

Then he sat before the judge
The trial proclaimed his guilt
He murdered his young daughter and ran into the woods

White – the color of his skin when the noose finally tightened

The Line – Day 27 of 30

It was too long, the line today
So I opted to park, go in, get my entree

Laughing and smirking at the brilliance of my plan
While they wait in that line with more than one van

I found a close spot, jumped out, locked the door
And moved with agility up to the store

But what waited for me? The jokes on you pal
You see, it appears I wasn’t the only guy or gal
That thought they could bypass the brutal drive-thru line
For when I entered I noted that I wasn’t alone in my desire to whine

Authentic Advice – Day 26 of 30

The best choice is the hardest

I’m sure you would agree

Many times decisions do not present clearly

Challenges, commitments put us to the test

It’s when we get discouraged that trust with certainty

Confidence handed to us from the friendships we’ve grown

Opportunity to connect with all of those we’ve known

Seeking advice is simple, taking it is not so easy

Being open in relationships, living with authenticity

Is the easiest choice we can make when  life has turned badly

Do not close the door to wisdom of a friend and family

Take what you need, leave what you don’t and then apply broadly

The Art of……poetry? Day 25 of 30

Writing poetry can be loads of fun
Especially when you make up your own word-un

See, that is what makes classic poets far better
When they dig deep for words that you don’t know exist-er

For every hence, thou, shall and dost
Is an equal word matching in rhyme and syllabl-ost

It’s simple, no really, to develop a pattern
Just start writing your manuscript and let it developer-n

Study their work: Hughes, Dickinson, Frost and Poe
Isn’t it lovely how the words work together-o

One should not be bashful when starting to pen
Short or long poems that have meaning to them-en

Expressing thoughts and feelings a healthy exercise
When completed often times helps one communicate-ize

Do not write in fear of what others may say
Remember you write not for them but for you-ay

To master the art of poetry truly looks quite daunting
But with practice and patience comes satisfaction-ing

So pick up that pen, do not worry or doubt
Write your poem with made up poet words like the list I’ve laid out!

Snare Drum of Life – Day 24 of 30

Tick

Tock

Tick

Tock

That is the sound of more than a clock

It’s the soundtrack of life drawing to its last stanza

While with your last breath sir death does stalk

Pushing stop on your music, welcome eternal coma

Thump

Thump

Thump

Thump

The beat of your heart like a steady drum’s snare

Giving cadence to life as you walk, unprepared

One day the beating will suddenly suspend

For on tomorrow’s drum beat you cannot depend.

So You Thought I’d Forgotten – Day 23 of 30

So you thought I’d forgotten
the time you said that?
Like I wouldn’t remember
the mark left when I fell flat.

You thought that my memory
would fail to recall
the way your delivery
crushed me once and for all.

As if I was concrete,
not buckling or bending,
staying steady and sweet,
during that chapter ending.

I gathered my strength,
and pulled myself tall.
Keeping at arm’s length
your voice’s evil call.

Now I am better.
Thanks to you, I’m stronger.
Today finds me the abater.
And to you I say, later.

My life was bound to improve
because I endured the plague of you!

The Single-Sided Friend – Day 22 of 30

It steals your morning, noon and night
It doesn’t care for your to-do list
It can certainly hinder your eyesight
It has never shown up on a checklist

Never ceasing to captivate
Never working to educate
Never offering help or friendship
Never giving you more than a clip

Constantly standing between you and them
Constantly glaring down with its unfazed glow
Constantly working to simply condemn
Constantly beckoning: “Just sit and follow.”

It is dumbing down a nation
It is creating “reality” strife
It’s crushing your potential creation
It’s set to wage war with your life

Television, it loves you.

Quagmire (When You Step In It) – Day 21 of 30

Life’s full of curveballs

Unexpected events

Unplanned moments hit like squalls

A script of uncontrollable contents

Dealing with such is often a challenge

Choosing how you’ll address and manage

Often it’s easy for man to just fall

Mistakes can compound and then, snowball

Despair and discouragement cast things oblong

Choices are tough – some right and some wrong

Simply no promise the one that you choose

Will be the answer that will help to diffuse

Life’s messy moments often require

Perseverance to help us avoid the quagmire
