Awkward Muse

You know the moment I type of.
Where you’re standing all alone.
Not looking at anything, anyone.

Yet, standing still and looking out
into the great beyond, eyes gone kind of blurry.
Because the car key location has created serious doubt.

And as you stand and gaze ahead,
the person in your path
wonders what is wrong with them.

They ask themselves,
“Are they staring at me?”
Questions circulate
inside their head for they can’t decide
if you think they’ve gained weight.

But, of course, you do not see
the person straight ahead.
For you’re just focused on remembering where
you put the car keys in your bag.

Then, the moment, it happens so fast.
You snap awake to see,
You’re staring right at the dude,
have been for way too long,
now it’s time to flee.

You were just thinking and gazing away
with no true focused direction.
But you made someone’s day real weird,
when you stared during that lengthy session.

Gratitude

Sometimes when we least expect it
When we are looking the other way
Too busy to see what could be done

It happens

But we do not realize it
Priorities out of alignment
Anger playing on the main stage

Missed opportunity

To say thank you
Spread the word
Show our gratitude

It’s never too late

Recognize what’s been done
Acknowledge the healing that occurred
Shout the praises of the most neglected one

Thanks God, sorry I was mad.

The Crash

Unseen.
Unexpected.
Unbelievable.

The man crawled from the wreckage….
…..wheels spinning…..
….smoke rising up….
…glass cracking…
..airbags deflating..

Unreal.
Unwanted.
Unwarranted.

The man stood, wiped blood from his forehead looked back….

….life changed forever.

Pain and loss, as real as the sun’s rays, stared back.

Sirens roared.

Tall Tale of the West

Covered in dust

and dying of thirst.

On the run for the pain

he inflicted on a train.

“That cowpoke had it comin'”

is what he had said.

But no man deserves a gunnin’

in front of his family, now dead.

When the law catches up

they’ll hang him for sure.

While his horse may still gallup,

it will one day end the tour

for the killer out west

is nearing arrest.

If you see him dressed in all black

and heading towards you,

leave your iPhone and Cadillac

lest it be your your Waterloo.

Sonic and the Danger of That Little Red Tray

Empty and hollow

Shallow and weak

Disarming, alarming

Yielding little,

but demanding much

The payoff, not worth it

Havoc reaches deep

Momentary satisfaction

Results in impaction

Negative capillary action

Delivers a health infraction

That signifies the coming

colon chain reaction

Steer clear of the tots.

The poppers and rings.

The grilled cheese and coney dogs

are waiting to sting.

Take that stupid tray off of my window.

I don’t want your peppermint.

Happy hour or not, I always come back to

the fact that I hate Sonic more than you.

[Forward] (HopE)

voices

in my ear

telling me i cannot

reminding me i did not

gently whispering about the last time

memories

revolving upstairs

conjuring up images

of failure, mediocrity, apathy

pushing me to give up and give in

lies

the language by which

my head communicates

to my body in an effort

to deliver defeat before i begin

HopE

the counter i use

to convince myself

that the lies are voices

created by memories

that will not live to be repeated

Closed For Personal Inventory

When examining, reviewing, gauging your life,

be sure to reflect on yourself with great truth.

This hard, cold honesty can bring about strife

because life’s a fast game that seems to favor youth.

Is it true? Can it be? It won’t happen to me!

Are just some of the words often muttered,

when we realize the dreams we had are now nothing but clutter.

Do I speak from experience? I don’t know, you tell me.

My old friends, how is life after forty?

My younger years offered hope, dreams and expectation

while now this logical life seems more like an equation.

Want that? Do this. Save here to add more.

Everything worth having creates some mental war.

I am now much wiser and yes, I can say, more comfortable in my own skin.

However, I question and doubt and return to

the method I’ve used herein.

Would I change it? Of course not, except maybe once.

The path I walked offered little resistance.

Let’s make it full circle – that seems about right.

When I look back and study the ways of my days,

will I take comfort in knowing that I held their gaze?

Could regret be the currency I’ll have to pay?

Or will peace and comfort find me in life’s final phase?

Contrast

The path
The road
The trees
The buildings
The bird calls
The horns
The fresh air
The hazy air
The smell of pine
The smell of fumes
The pine needles
The hubcaps

Rental

My rental car would not start today
Not a good sign when your flight’s at 6:30

Nothing to do but ditch it right there
Leave it in the hotel garage- no worries, no care

I can’t miss my flight with current capacity
Maxed out with no extra seats equals calamity

Stand at the gate and wait
That’s what I do now
That rental car can fend for itself
Additional fees? AmEx won’t allow!

Extreme

If you do not agree

completely with me

then you must be extreme

your ideas but a dream

to live in this country

does not offer, you see,

the option of middle ground

or diplomacy

some may say CRAZY

the U.S. is not mean

then I’d say that you’re left-wing

or right-wing

or maybe faking

do you not know, recognize, understand

that voicing an opinion in great land

is no longer permitted or respectfully heard

rather, met with the bone-crushing call of ABSURD

if you do not fall in line and go popular

then you’ll likely end up on the boycott altar

summarizing your choices

are laid out as this:

agree with what they say, or be led away

fall in line little lamb, don’t wander astray

the idea of respecting what others believe

appears to be gone, so don’t be naive.
